Grief Therapy in
San Luis Obispo
You don't need a diagnosis to know something has broken open. A death, a diagnosis, a divorce, a job, a version of yourself you didn't expect to lose- grief doesn't check whether the loss is "big enough" before it moves in.
Grief often gets stuck not because you haven't processed it "correctly," but because it never had a safe place to move through in the first place. It can show up as more than sadness- anger, numbness, relief, guilt and it can isolate you, live in your body, or make it hard to function long after the people around you expect you to have "moved on."
We help clients find language for a loss that others may not fully understand, and learn to carry grief without it running their whole life. This isn't limited to grief after death — we work with all kinds of loss, including the end of a marriage, estrangement, illness, and identity shifts.
Our Approach
Our approach is somatic — we don't just talk about what happened, we pay attention to where it's living in you, in the body and not just the mind. We go at the pace that fits your loss, not a fixed protocol; some clients come for a few sessions around an anniversary or a hard season, others stay longer as grief reshapes itself over time.
Who You'll Work With
This work is led by Amy Maier, AMFT, who works with clients navigating loss in all its forms — helping them find a place for grief to land, and a way to keep moving through their lives alongside it.
Logistics
We accept private pay and Cencal. If you're using out-of-network insurance benefits, we're happy to provide a superbill for you to submit for possible reimbursement. Sessions are available both in-person in San Luis Obispo and via telehealth.
